HASTA LA VISTA, BABY

Today, in spite of my evident lack of English skills, I want to use this language to write my article. It’s only the way to pay a humble tribute to the American people and, especially, to my “cousins in arms” the Navy SEALs. Osama Ben Laden, who was the most dangerous killer, the enemy nº1, has been killed after ten years. “He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword".

He died neither by the impact of a Tomahawk launched from a vessel anchored a hundred miles away nor by the explosion of missiles “fire and forget” dropped by a fighter flying a thousand feet above.

It was a bunch of 40 CIA-led Special Forces guys. People well trained and better prepared. They fought hand–to–hand against him and his security detail. One shot in his head. Bang! (Is there anything dark in the circumstances? I don’t know and, what’s more, I don’t care). They carried out the task in 40 minutes. 40 selected soldiers in 40 minutes. Good number. From a Catholic point of view, I know I shouldn’t be glad but he was such a son of a bitch! This is the only point disturbing my conscience. I’m sorry, but I don’t share the anti-Americanism spread in the Spanish society.

But the United States has only paid off a pending debt for all of us. I’ll never forget our 11-M. The pressure must continue because, like a wounded beast, Al Qaeda will try to kill again. And I’m sure they’ll succeed. We have to be prepared to bear the strike and give it back. Time and time again. We won’t see an end to global terrorism but it’s our duty to try to defeat it, so that our children will see such a day.

Until then, God bless the SEAL team six[1]…and forgive me for feeling better now.

Note for Spanish readers: The title of this entrance should be “Sayonara baby”, expression used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the film Terminator 2: Judgment Day, dubbed into Spanish instead of “hasta la vista, baby”.

Note for English native readers: If you read any grammar mistakes, don’t hesitate to correct me.

[1] I read SEAL Team 6 was dissolved in 1987 and its members set up the US Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU), but as even US media use Team 6 I kept it as well.
